Stateside Publisher of the Year
Winner: Square Enix USA
(To clear up, and before people say that this call was too obvious, let us tell you how this was done. This was NOT based solely on quantity; that was a very minor factor. It was a judgement of the overall quality and impact of each RPG on a game-per-game basis, the award being given to the American localization house that brought over the best pack.)
The lineup of Square Enix USA this year stood out like few ever have. In 2005, this house brought us the two amazingly great titles Dragon Quest VIII and Romancing SaGa. These would have been enough to put the company in the running for this award. But when Final Fantasy IV Advance and Radiata Stories were added in, we were left with little choice here.
The other big reason for this award going to Square Enix USA is the lack of dependance on the Final Fantasy series. The only FF title released this year was a GBA remake of an established classic, while the rest were not FF related games.
The company didn't have a perfect year, mind you. The first of the two Fullmetal Alchemist games that came out for PS2 wasn't quite up to par, and Musashi Samurai Legend didn't impress either. In the case of FMA, a compitent sequel was released in six months later, and other games more than erased the memories of Musashi. There was stiff, stiff competition from Atlus USA for this award, but Square Enix takes it this year.
