Winner: City of Villains
The widely anticipated MMORPG City of Villains delivered fast and hard with game play that was easy to pick up and hard to put down. The game is a standalone title that doesn't require City of Heroes but there are bonuses for those who play both. Who can pass up the ability to create one's own supervillian and fortress of evil, then pummelling players of the original City of Heroes. This game delivered in a way few other MMORPGs this year could have hoped.
Runner up: Guild Wars
The world of Tyria gets special props for bringing a new spin of the Competitive Online RPG to the PC. This game strips out the tedium of a standard ORPG and puts a firm emphasis on Player versus Player content. Even more attractive to casual gamers, the game also removed the monthly fees that the more "massive" online games have, yet still manages to have timely updates and fresh content.
