Winner: Mario and Luigi: Parters in Time (DS)
Mario and Luigi team up with their younger selves to take on the denizens of Planet Shroob and walk away with the Game of the Year in the next-gen handheld class. The sequel to the GBA's Superstar Saga, Partners in Time is solid and fun, with a battle system that delivers and a story that's fun and fresh.
Runner up: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS)
Soma Cruz's exploits in the most recent Castelvania game is all about ambiance. The musical score and graphics are simply beautiful and fit perfectly. While the stylus mini-games often seem less like innovation and more like a cheap way to justify the game being on the DS and the story is about as cut and dry as they come, this game still has no issue being an amazing title.
