Winner: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Fire Emblem fans couldn't have asked for a better year. While FE: Path of Radiance was busy winning our Best GameCube Game of the Year award, its GBA counterpart was rocking the handheld world with another fantastic title. It's all about impressive gameplay in the Fire Emblem series, and Sacred Stones uses just that to work its way to the top. Did I just use the essentially same blurb for both Fire Emblem titles? I did.
Runner up: Final Fantasy IV Advance
There are always plenty of people eagerly awaiting the release of a Final Fantasy game. This year, the FF game Square Enix churned out was the Game Boy Advance's Final Fantasy IV Advance. The remake provided a level of nostalgia that touched fans, while changing enough other things (much of the script, for one) to keep it somewhat of a new experience.
