This choice will come as a shock to most people, but with the boring sameness that is the MMO landscape of today, A Tale in the Desert stands out on several accounts. The utilitarian graphics allow players to get into the nitty gritty of the game mechanics. ATitD is a violence free, sandbox MMO with a charm many will overlook. Don't.

For our MMOs this year RPG Land was searching for unique titles--games that moved away from the tired MMO cliches established in Ultima Online and EverQuest days. Dungeons & Dragons Online's quest-based experience system is interesting, and along with the "real time" combat, it provides a fun place to hang out with your other chaotic good halfelf friends.
