So what are you most favorite, absolute, undesputed king-of-the-mountain games from the PlayStation?
Mine are:
The Unholy War.
This was an awesome 2-player mayhem/strategy game that went very underrated. It played like a dream, had great control, good level variety, neat characters, and the computer could get very smart in strategy mode.
Another is:
Future Cop: LAPD
You didn't get to beat people with batons in the game, but you got the next best thing: climbing into a mech and knocking stuff over. The mission mode was so-so--about what you'd expect from an action game. The real fun lies in Precinct Assault, which functioned a lot like Capture the Flag, except with robots blowing things up and more of a military-type strategy. Was an extremely fun time, especially with 2 players. I wish an online sequel would come out SO bad. _________________ If you buy stuff from Play Asia, help support RPG Land. Thank you. |

Well, the only games I ever play from the PSX era (aside from the seldom repeat RPG) anymore are Trap Gunner, Bushido Blade 1 and Street Fighter Alpha 3. Not sure how testiment to their quality that is, they're just fun multiplayer...
SFA3 needs no descriptor I should think.

Trap Gunner is a game that Atlus put out that's kind of like Spy Vs. Spy meets anime cheese. The most fun you can have with two people and a video game console (aside from Guitar Hero).

Bushido Blade, most people know, is a samurai fighting series that Square released. It's fun because of it's randomness and potential one-hit kills. While knowledge of stances can help you get an upper hand, it's possible for anyone, no matter how handicapped at video games they might be, to win at it. The free roaming levels are awesome too if you manage to live longer than 30 seconds and get to explore them... _________________

Soooo true. We spent countless nights battling it up LAPD style. WOW, those were good times. This looks more like an underrated games thread, so I'd totally agree with those as underrated options. I'll have to go look at my PSX library and then get back to you on this one, but trust me, if you have a few friends looking for a good time videogame wise, Future Cop was the way to go. _________________ http://didthemapleleafswin.com/ |

Metal gear solid has always been a fun ps game for me..the first game introduced a type of gameplay most companies never dreamed of.
and yes I love army games..the whole spec ops series was always so fun for me and my friend to play...the co-op modes are so fun! PART 4 was a letdown tho...it ruined the whole series when they decied to change the game engine...
But in terms of roleplaying this game:
wild arms 2 is to me a fun game something that I personally think can compete with FF7 on a PSX rpg level..
I know these games aren't that old but meh... |

Hey has anyone ever played a game called Granstream Saga?
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/197486.asp
I remember owning this and actually beating it (I was in my RPG heyday so I was playing every one I could get my hands on) even though it was pretty bad. It was all top down and actiony which was kind of cool and had nice anime cutscenes, but it was repetitive, forgettable in every way and the townspeople had no faces. Still you can get it for $5 on half.com, it's about the most unique RPG I can remember playing. Try it if you have some free time and $5 to blow. _________________

My sister bought and played cause it was $3 at EB, but hated it. I took it off her hands, but my time usually goes into games that aren't out yet, so ah...I probably won't get around to it till I'm retired

We totally did. I think we maybe spent about 2 hours or less--lifetime--in the regular mission mode, and a then the rest of our teen years in Precint Assault. Man, that was fun. _________________ If you buy stuff from Play Asia, help support RPG Land. Thank you. |

I've tryed that game before...I didn't lke the battle system much and the camera angles so I didn't play it that long...don't think I even made it half way. |

HOLY CRAP. Ok I know this is off topic a little. But I just saw this game was also released on PC with online capabilities. It's from '98 so there's a good chance it would either suck, be non existent or just suck. But I'll be damned if I'm not going to look for a copy of that. _________________ http://didthemapleleafswin.com/ |

Let us know the results. I spotted it on eBay, but more expensive than an American should have to pay for a 7-year-old PC game. _________________ If you buy stuff from Play Asia, help support RPG Land. Thank you. |

Shortly after I got a PlayStation and had only a few games, RagePirate came down for a week or so and we picked up the issue of OPM that had Parasite Eve on the cover and the enclosed demo disc had a video of Metal Gear Solid (gameplay mostly). I think we might have watched it 15 times. At that time, it actually wasn't high on our "get" list, but as November approached, that changed. If I recall correctly, we both laid down the $50 without hesitation. No regrets. _________________ If you buy stuff from Play Asia, help support RPG Land. Thank you. |

I pretty much only play RPGs, or at least only BUY RPGS, but here's my list:
Suikoden 2
SaGa Frontier
Valkyrie Profile
Legend of Mana
Arc the Lad 2
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
Those games are among the best RPGs ever, even beating out most if not all PS2 RPGs, with these other games being great as well, but not quite to that level of awesomeness:
Xenogears
Wild Arms (never got to play WA2!)
FFTactics
Front Mission 3 _________________ Xyzzy...
