In order, Best to worst, organized from the following group:
Quote:
NES:
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3

SNES:
Super Mario World

N64:
Super Mario 64

GC:
Super Mario Sunshine

GB:
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2

DS:
New Super Mario Bros.

My choices:
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 2
New Super Mario Bros. (Though I admit I've only played a little bit, mostly multiplayer. So allow a margin of error here)
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Sunshine

Edits: parenthetical and typo.

Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Land 2
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Sunshine

The last two I've never played, but Land looks better than Sunshine.

And before you all ask, I own Six Golden Coins, and yes, I enjoy it more than I enjoyed NSMB. Don't ask me why, because I'm not sure. I really enjoyed the longer levels and the different worlds is all, I guess. And Carrots were a nifty power up. Mario with bunny ears!

Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 3
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario Land
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Sunshine

64 is ranked low because I am just sick of it. Played it way way too much just like Super Mario Bros. 1.

Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Land 2
New Super Mario Bros.

The two on the bottom I have not played.

Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros. 1
Super Mario World
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine

And both Super Mario Land games were for the regular Game Boy.

And don't take this as meaning I didn't like New Super Mario Bros. I really did, I just love the series, and it didn't really offer anything ground breaking. Just more of the same fun.

The ultimate question, eh.

Super Mario Bros. 3/Super Mario World*
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Land
New Super Mario Bros.

*I know I'm cheating, but if this list was going to get wrote it had to be done.

NSMB just didn't do it for me on some level, and of course on a list like this last place is hardly terrible.

Thanks. *Edits post yet again*

Glad to see people putting Sunshine way the hell down low. That game had me way excited to play it, but I really didn't feel like it delivered. Didn't have much fun with that one.

Odd, I don't really know why it garners the hate since I felt it was just about as good as 64 Confused

I absolutely loved 64 when I first tried it, and then I played trying to progress later and hated it, and now I've gone back to loving it. Funny how that works.

I want to play it on a real N64 again, though. Not on a DS.

Again, Sunshine I haven't played, but it didn't look as fun.

Fun trivia: first time I played Sunshine was in the living room of the current RPGamer Editor in Chief.

Actually I'm surprised Mario 64 isn't higher. In my mind Mario 64 is one of the greatest console game of any genre of all time.

Yoshi's Island - It's the best platformer of all time. I don't care if it's not a main series Mario game
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros. 2
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Land

Super Mario Sunshine - Never played. Even though it's supposedly not awesome, I should still go pick it up someday.

I'd totally be with LiQuid on Yoshi's Island if it was in the lineup. Wario Land was also a pretty awesome game without so much Mario in it.

Oh hell yes.

And I'm one of two people here (Me, RagePirate...anyone else?) who played the Wario Land on Virtual Boy, but we'll both report that game rocking all kinds of house too.

I did, even though I never owned a Virtual Boy. Probably the one thing that system had of value. What a crazy system, I'd quit playing and be disoriented for a minute afterwards.

Yeah I always took a hit of acid before playing to balance out the weird effects.

Yeah the Wario Land games rule pretty hard. Can't wait for MoD to come out. There's enough side story platformers with Mario characters to have their own rank list. The Yoshi's Island (and Story) games, Wario Land, Peach, etc.

So are you making that thread or am I?

I'm too lazy. And I can't find a definitive list of all of the side games.
