We've beaten them the last two years in a row. An 8 seed taking out the 1 seed is always great too.

My picks:

HAWKS beats Canucks
PREDATORS beat Ducks
SHARKS beat Kings
COYOTES beat Red Wings (thisd may be Phoenix's last hurrah and I think they will do well. Also can't wait for them to leave and go to Winnipeg)

CAPITOLS beat Rangers
FLYERS beat Sabres
PENGUINS beat Lightning
HABS beat Bruins

Finally, NHL Playoffs are upon us! No soccer bullshit to get in the way either. I shaved last night, so the Playoff beard can begin.

My picks for my favorite time of year:

Blackhawks beat Vancouver in 5
Predators beat Ducks in 6
Sharks beat Kings in 4
Red Wings beat Coyotes in 7 (I hate the Red Wings more than I hate anything else in this world, but the Coyotes have a fantastic history of choking in the playoffs.)

Capitals beat Rangers in 4
Flyers beat Sabres 5
Lightning beat Penguins in 5 (I like the Penguins, but Tampa Bay has been on a tear.)
Bruins beat Montreal in 6 (This is the best matchup of the first round because it's 2 of the original 6 facing off. I'll really be happy with either team winning, I just think Boston will pull it off. Especially with Zdeno Chara slamming faces left and right.)

Teams I'm cheering for:
Chicago Blackhawks
Washington Capitals
Pittsburgh Penguins

Teams I'm rooting against:
Detroit Red Wings

Teams I'm glad couldn't handle the Minnesota Fucking Wild:
Dallas Stars

My favorite category ever.

I too shaved yesterday. I am ready for all my kindergarten-and-younger students to get scared shitless by the awesome beard that will be rolling around this time next week. Hell yes.

Blackhawks all the way. I don't care about hockey and I can name maybe one player in the sport, but Chicago ftw.

OK, but this thread better not get fagged up with fairy soccer or basketball talk.

Caps over Rangers in 5
Sabres over Flyers in 6
Bruins over Habs in 7
Pens over Lightning in 6

Vancouver over Chicago in 7
Detroit over Phoenix in 6
Sharks over Kings in 5
Ducks over Preds in 6

I feel like I would legitimately pick the Sabres even if I weren't a homer. Philly has been sliding, they lost their last 2 against Buffalo and they still don't have Pronger back. I'm not saying mash the Upset Alert button, but you may wanna keep it handy if the Sabres can split the first 2 in Philly.

Also, H, Rangers over Caps huh? I feel like if I had to rank my confidence in my picks, I'd feel second most confident in the Caps. Only the Sharks seem like a safer lock to win the first round. Just a hunch? Lundqvist Love? Or is this a Caps will choke more than Rangers win situation? Normally I'd agree, but I think this team has proven they can win without scoring a bunch of goals now. The Rangers will have to score more than 1 goal a game and that seems like a tall order for them. We shall see!

Boom. Hockey talk. Shit's happening.

Tonight, it begins. My baby-smooth cheeks lasted all of 9 hours. It's now a fierce stubble working to burst into a full on face-mane. By the end of the playoffs, hopefully I'll have something as glorious as last year's playoff beard.

Mostly a hunch based on Capitals tending to not handle pressure very well and the Rangers coming off a decent end of the season. I know they lost tonight in OT, but I think their young goaltenders will crack.

Though I also thought that of Varlamov, and Ward that one time, and Leighton and Niemi last year, etc....

Well my picks went 1-4 tonight. I am off to a thunderously good start, heh.

I do not know what to be more upset about...

The hawks losing or the White Sox not having a closer.

BUT BUT BUT The bulls have the best record in the entire NBA. Jordan said they will win at least 6.

Bucs and Bears are going to play in London England.

Man chicago sports are great. Oh yeah back to hockey.

The Habs are already leading over the Bruins. God this sport kicks so much ass. I feel bad for people that don't watch it. It is by far the most exciting team sport in the world.

What a beautiful ugly win by Buffalo. Defensive hockey to the max and Miller plays brilliantly. I'm just...going to stay reserved because this team is playing hockey I never thought they were capable of playing 3 months ago and my imagination is taking me to places Buffalo fans don't dare go anymore.

Here's hoping the Blackhawks don't make Luongo look like the 2nd coming of Roy again. I couldn't believe how many missed opportunities they had on Wednesday night. I can't believe that during any of the intermissions Quenville didn't turn to his players and say, "Shoot at the mutherfucking net, not at the damn goalie!"
