Soma Bringer: 16 screens; new gameplay, story info

One-player mode in the DS action RPG Soma Bringer will have the player being accompanied by a pair of AI-governed companions, selected from a grab bag of seven possible, each with different attributes and such. Using the local DS wireless connectivity, up to three players can join a single game. This will be limited to local connections, not online. More gameplay details follow these screenshots:

Like many action RPGs, different attacks will be hotkeyed — in this case, to the to the DS’s A, B, X, and Y buttons. “Break” techniques are the name Soma Bringer gives anoter action RPG staple; that is, multiple attacks leading up to a more powerful ending strike. There’s a chance such a blow could stun an enemy.

The story of Soma Bringer involves the continent of Barunea losig its natural balance of this Soma stuff, then the protagonist meeting a mysterious girl who might hold (or even “be”) the key to restoring the balance.

Soma Bringer will be released in Japan on Feb. 28, 2008, selling for ?4,800.
