Anime Discussion

This is where we gather in the #rpgland channel of IRC on the Esper.net server and discuss what we refer to as "the issues."

In this edition, we talked about anime coming to the PSP, and what we thought of such things. Conveniently, there was also a thread about this on our message boards right here, so if you'd like to comment or vote in the poll, go nuts. Without further ado, we present you with our first in this series of discussions.

Rage: With UMD sales beating expectations, it seems that getting anime onto the format is natural next step that's finally happening. Geneon is putting the visually compelling Appleseed on American store shelves this July.
Rage: Samurai Champloo, from Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe and character animator Kazuto Nakazawa [Kill Bill Vol. 1's animated sequence]. will also debut at the same time. Gungrave and Hellsing releases are also planned.
Rage: So let us discuss this IRC-style.
Owozifa: Say what?
Owozifa: I think UMDs are crap.
Brody46: I must agree
Owozifa: Anime is expensive as it is without worrying about buying it twice.
Brody46: I think my main barrier is the fact that I wouldn't watch it on that tiny screen
Owozifa: Yeah.
Owozifa: Handhelds make my neck hurt.
Brody46: Maybe what? Once? On a planeride? I don't have the money to be shelling out $30 for some travel-time entertainment.
Owozifa: That's why I have a GB Player on my Gamecube.
Rage: Indeed. If I'm in a situation where I'm going to be looking at a handheld for any period of time, I usually want to be...you know...playing a game on that handheld--not watching a little TV.
Owozifa: Very little input from the others thus far.
* Brody46 bitchslaps the others
Rage: similar article, though the topic of anime isn't prevelant:
Rage: "As perhaps a sign that UMD movies really are the wave of the future, Japanese PSP owners will soon be able to buy adult movies for their handheld. Sony of Japan says that while it finds porn for PSP "utterly undesirable", it could do nothing to stop companies from releasing such movies. The power of porn rules once agan."
Rage: Now what the hell?
Rage: Really, now. How much is too much?
Owozifa: In the world of porn...
Owozifa: Nothing.
Owozifa: Apparently.
Brody46: Who's gonna watch that? You gonna pull that out on the bus and just turn on "Where the Boys Aren't" while you ride?
Owozifa: Well in Japan...They apparently have Hentai vending machines at the train station.
Owozifa: So... this doesn't seem much of a leap in that regard.
Brody46: Ah yes. Japan.
Brody46: I doubt this will come to America
Owozifa: Probably not.
Sistance: lol
Sistance: PSP?
Sistance: wonder when someone will make A/V attachments for the PSP
paper: meh
paper: movie support for the PSP seemed pretty pointless to me from the get go
Sistance: i think so too
paper: but if you consider this: the Japanese tend to do everything during their daily commute
Sistance: but at least they could make a half-assed effort ;)
paper: everything from reading porn to listening to music
paper: and texting eachother
Brody46: heh, good quote from earlier: I think UMDs are crap.
paper: heh
paper: personally, I think they're the answer to "mass storage media for the portable game systems"
paper: buuut...with all the hacking that's been occurring on the PSP as of late...who knows!
Sistance: lol
paper: at the nudie bar?
Sistance: retards will waste their time hacking it
paper: heh
paper: well, I like the fact that they've put emulators on it
paper: and the added functionality of a calender/contacts book
Sistance: emus are cool
Sistance: as long as they don't kick you
paper: because, if I'm paying 250 dollars for something like that...it better be customizable
paper: and by customizable...I mean adding functionality to it that it normally wouldn't have
Sistance: with this handy software, your PSP can function as a xerox machine/paper shredder!
paper: yess
paper: that's what I want to see
paper: hell, if I'm going to spend that much, I might as well spend it on a PDA or something like that
Sistance: mine works as a waffle iron too :P
